India won the first ODI on September 22 at Mohali, taking a 1-0 series lead.
After winning the toss, Australian captain Steve Smith decided to bowl first. In addition to Mohammed Siraj, India continued to rest Jasprit Bumrah during the game. In order to improve the team's fast-bowling section, Prasidh Krishna was added. Australia, on the other hand, announced that Steve Smith will serve as the team's captain while Pat Cummins was rested for this match. Additionally, Spencer Johnson made his ODI debut.
Josh Hazlewood sent out Ruturaj Gaikwad for 8 runs, but shortly after, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill teamed up and began to fully control the Australian bowling. The Australian bowlers were unable to fend off their assault as the pair quickly amassed 200 runs for the second wicket.
Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for 105 runs, his third century in one-day internationals and his first after rejoining the Indian team following a protracted absence due to a back injury and surgery.
Shubman Gill scores a magnificent 104 runs in ODIs to extend his hot streak.
