The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will feature 10 teams, with an increase expected in the next edition

The upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be played in a round-robin format, similar to 1992 and 2019, with each team competing against every other participant in the league stage. For the first time, India will be the sole host of this major event.

Prior to this, India co-hosted the World Cup with Pakistan (1987, 1996), Sri Lanka (1996, 2011), and Bangladesh (2011) in each of the previous three tournaments in 1987, 1996, and 2011. 12 distinct locations will host the tournament, with 10 hosting the major matches and 2 designated for warm-up games.

Ahmedabad to host tournament opener

The tournament's opening ceremony will take place in Ahmedabad and get underway with an action-packed match at the Narendra Modi Stadium. On October 14, at the same location, there will be a highly anticipated World Cup matchup between England, the reigning champions from 2019, and New Zealand. On October 14th, this location will host a major World Cup match between India and Pakistan. On October 28 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, New Zealand will face Australia, and on November 4 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, England will play Australia.

No West Indies in World Cup 2023

Due to West Indies' failure to make the World Cup through the qualifiers, the tournament will be played without them for the first time ever. After participating in the World Cup qualifying, Scotland, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands secured their spots in the main event. Afghanistan and Bangladesh earned their spots in the World Cup thanks to stellar ICC Cricket Super League achievements. Based on their results in the ICC Cricket Super League as well, India, Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, and Pakistan have all confirmed their places.

Thirty days before to the tournament's start, the final roster for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 must be revealed. India is reportedly planning to reveal their roster within the first week of September. Only Australia has announced its preliminary roster thus far; the other nations are still contemplating how to finalise their 15-member squads. The majority of teams are need to decide before the end of this month.
